Three steps to better days
We all have had one, a bad day, and more likely than not will experience quite a few in our lifetime. However, a bad day doesn't have to last all day; in fact it doesn't have to affect you at all if you handle it correctly. Stress can get out of hand and if you are experiencing an extra stressful day you may find yourself saying things you other wise wouldn't, being irritable, and all in all unfriendly as well as developing a headache and wishing to find a hole somewhere to crawl into. This doesn't help if it is a weekday and you are otherwise involved with your career and the like. In these cases there are some ways to counteract the need to dig that hole in which to hide. Some simple techniques is all it takes to get yourself started back on track and to relieve that buildup that could lead to a blow up.
Meditate. This doesn't mean assume the lotus position and begin invoking your ohms. Just sit back, close your eyes, empty your mind of all the clutter and take a few deep breaths. By concentrating on your muscles relaxing and your worries floating away you will physically feel yourself lightening. It is the best way to clear the tension that would otherwise lead to a head ache or worse. This takes only moments and can be done as often as needed. Number two: make time for 'you' time. Whether it is on your lunch break or at the end of the day be sure to take the time to spend some quality moments with yourself. Bring a novel to work with you and read a few chapters on your lunch break or turn on the radio while you munch on some food. Anything to take your mind off of responsibility will work even if it is a computer game of solitaire.
If you make use of this time at home, jump into a hot relaxing bath or take a long shower to not only wash away the grime of the day but to wash away the kinks as well. This will give you the needed alone time as well as relaxing you enough before bed that you will slip into an easy sleep and wake refreshed the following day. Of course you can also chill in front of the television with a beer if this so suits you. The point to 'you' time is doing whatever you want. No matter what you find relaxing even if it is going around at a high speed in your favorite SUV enhanced with skyjacker lift kit, go do it!
Last but not least, our number three solution is vent if you need to. Whether it is to your best friend, a sympathetic coworker, or your daughter's teddy bear but talk out what is bothering you. Trying to bottle up your stress and not talking about your feelings will lead to a blow out in the end. In one way or another, emotions will be vented. It is much better to do it on your own time then to wait until they are so overwhelming you have no control. In fact, by talking it out to someone you may even discover a solution yourself. These three small steps can lead to a lifetime of good days.
